हर हर गंगे · हर हर महादेव

The Kumbh Mela is the largest peaceful gathering of human beings on earth — a 12-year cycle of four festivals (Haridwar, Prayagraj, Nashik, Ujjain) rooted in the Samudra Manthan, when drops of the Amrit (nectar of immortality) fell at these four riverbanks. The 2027–2028 cycle includes the Haridwar Ardh Kumbh on the Ganga, the rare 21-month Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Simhastha on the Godavari, and the Ujjain Simhastha on the Shipra at Mahakal’s feet. DharmikYatra is built to make the experience seamless and dignified — particularly for seniors, NRIs, women travelling solo, and first-time pilgrims.

History & heritage

A river of faith, twelve centuries deep

The Kumbh is documented in the 7th-century travelogues of the Chinese pilgrim Hsuan Tsang (Xuanzang), who witnessed a great bathing assembly at Prayag — and its roots reach further back into the Skanda Purana and the legend of the Samudra Manthan. As the gods and asuras churned the cosmic ocean for the nectar of immortality, a few drops fell at four riverbanks, sanctifying them forever as Kumbh sites.

Every cycle, the mela-nagari — a temporary tent city — rises again on the sands, coordinated by each host state’s Kumbh Mela Authority together with the 13 traditional Akharas (7 Shaiva, 3 Vaishnava, 3 Udasin/Sikh). Their royal Peshwai processions, the Naga sadhus and the thunderous Amrit Snan are among the most extraordinary sights in the living world of faith. In 2017, UNESCO inscribed the Kumbh on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Aarti, snan & the rhythm of the ghats

Each host city keeps its own sacred rhythm. Timings shift with the Amrit Snan tithis and the season — here is the broad shape of a Kumbh day.

Morning snanBegins ~24 hrs before the snan tithi

Timings are indicative and change with festivals, crowds and the Mela Authority advisories. Always confirm before travel — message us and we will share the latest schedule for your dates.

Dress code & what to carry

Modest traditional attire for snan and ghats. Women — saree, salwar-kameez or kurta; carry a dry change of clothes for after snan. Men — dhoti or kurta-pyjama. Avoid leather. A small cloth bag and a closable bottle for tirth water are useful. Heavy woollens are essential for the January–February Haridwar snan (water 4–8°C).
